It is part of the collection of 50's and 60s films I used to make my television series, Making Sense Of The Sixties. I was surprised that back then, in educational films like this, high school football was not as important as grades.

I collect educational and marketing films like these that present women in such classic, demeaning, stereotyped roles. I lived at this time and saw these films as a kid either in school or at various social groups. I believe that the rebellions of the 1960s changed so many things for the better and created some problems as well. I used this film and so many others from my collection in my television series, Making Sens of the Sixties.

In this clip, the great banjo picker Obray Ramsey and others are reflecting on folklorist and bluegrass mountain singer, Bascom Lamar Lunsford. You can get the entire film at https://www.createspace.com/204610. I spent a year searching for this wonderful old footage and finding folks who were there to experience these events, now long gone. My resulting one-hour documentary tells the story of Lunsford but goes beyond him to give a sense of these great musicians and dancers and how they struggled against prejudice.
